Since embarking on my zero waste journey, I’ve started following a ton of zero waste bloggers and social media influencers on Facebook, Instagram, or by subscribing to their blogs.
I used to have a negative connotation with the phrase “social media influencers,” but these people are using their power for good! I can’t tell you how many plastic-free living tips, DIY recipes and zero waste hacks I’ve gleaned from the pros.
There are so many inspiring bloggers who have been on this journey much longer than I have, and I’m a firm believer that we learn by example.
Here are 11 of my favorite and most inspiring zero waste bloggers.
1. Ain’t No Planet B
Zoe Jazz’s blog posts are poetic, thought provoking and stunningly descriptive. She is absolutely my personal favorite! One of her posts reads “Look after your planet, your body, your mind and others each and every day. Be patient with yourself. Forgive yourself. Nobody’s perfect. Especially not me.”
She catalogs her zero waste lifestyle with raw honesty and humor. Her website is a work of art and her Instagram feed (@aintnoplanetb) is captivating. Her IG bio reads “Baby steps to #zerowaste through progress not perfection. No bad vibes. We’re all in this together.” My kinda girl.
2. Going Zero Waste
Kathryn Kellogg is the ultimate zero waste guru! She has amazing DIY recipes for everything, ranging from zero waste mascara and eyeliner to zero waste deodorant. She makes zero waste seem like a piece of cake and has tips and hacks for every step of your own sustainable journey. Her Instagram handle is (@going.zero.waste).
2. Treading My Own Path
Like many zero waste bloggers, Lindsay Miles started her journey by going plastic free. I consider her a zero waste expert–she started her zero waste lifestyle back in 2012! Her IG (@treadingmyownpath) is oh so aesthetic and I draw so much inspiration from her posts. Her posts are optimistic and she stresses how it’s not about being perfect, it’s about making better choices.
4. Girl For a Clean World
Monica Rosquillas focuses on her life as a zero waste wanderer. Her older blog posts cover van travels and zero waste camping. Now she blogs about her experience living in Spain as a zero waster! It was through her zero waste lifestyle that she was able to save enough money to move there. Check out her blog itself or follow her on IG (@girlforacleanworld).
5. Sustain Yo Self
Sustain Yo Self is a blog run by twin sisters Geevie and Sophia. Both currently studying abroad in Europe, they document their zero waste college experiences on both their website and their Instagram (@sustainyoself). They review new ZW products they try, give minimalist travel tips and provide lots of DIY recipes. This blog is especially useful for any zero waste college students!
6. Zero Waste Guy
With a background in sustainable management, Jonathan Levy brings a new perspective to the table. Bloggers often tend to be women (I’m sure you’ve heard the phrase mom-blogger, but not so much dad-blogger) and the zero waste social media game is no different. Follow him on Instagram at (@zerowasteguy) or click the title link for his website.
7. Trash is for Tossers
Lauren Singer helped popularize the movement by speaking at universities worldwide, giving a TED talk and appearing on the Rachael Ray show. She covers how to make each room of your house zero waste, as well as other categories (shopping, travel, office, college, etc). She also owns an online shop, The Package Free Shop, which you can access through her website. She’s very active on Instagram (@trashisfortossers) and I’m constantly gleaning inspiration from her tips and products!
8. Anita van Dyke
Anita van Dyke spent years climbing the corporate ladder (as a rocket scientist!) and living a life of excess. After realizing she was spending her life just shopping and working, she found two movements that changed everything: minimalism and zero waste. She first started Instagramming about her journey (@rocket_science) but then started blogging when her Instagram took off. Her story absolutely fascinates and inspires me and I love following along.
9. Conscious by Chloe
Chloe Lepeltier, born in France, moved to Oregon a few years ago. Since she was starting in a new home and new country, she thought–why not start a new lifestyle too? She’s a staunch advocate for both the ZW movement and ethical fashion. Ethical fashion is something I’ve been researching more, so Chloe’s blog has been a helpful resource for me lately. Follow her on Instagram at (@consciousbychloe).
10. The Wild Minimalist
The Wild Minimalist blog is run by Max and Lily Cameron, who also have a zero waste online store. They urge readers to only shop at their store when you can’t find your zero waste essentials at your local thrift store. This blog has always stood out to me because they cover lots of different aspects of zero waste parenting. Their Instagram handle is (@thewildminimalist).
11. Tiny Yellow Bungalow
Jessie is founder and owner of the Tiny Yellow Bungalow blog, which showcases her personal experience adopting a plant based, zero waste lifestyle. She also runs the Tiny Yellow Bungalow online store, which you can access through her site. She regularly posts pictures of zero waste meals on her Instagram (@tinyyellowbungalow) and you can find her recipes in her zero waste vegan cookbook!
These 11 zero waste bloggers
inspire me on a daily basis with my own eco-conscious journey. One of the most important things to me is a positive outlook (no bad vibes!) and all of these bloggers have this in common. They make a zero waste lifestyle attainable to anyone and they stress that living zero waste is not about perfection, it’s about progress.
I’m positive that these zero waste bloggers will inspire you the way they’ve inspired me. I tend to be on social media quite often anyways, but when I’m following so many zero waste bloggers I feel like my time online isn’t a waste of time. It’s an opportunity for me to learn.
Side note, if you’re looking for zero waste products, please support small business by buying from these zero waste stores instead of from Amazon!
By all means–check out these bloggers, draw inspiration from their stories, make some incremental sustainable changes, and have fun with your own zero waste journey!
