Mother’s Day is right around the corner, and boy did I procrastinate with gifts this year! Usually we send flowers back home to our moms, but I recently learned just how unsustainable cut flowers can be. In my online shopping frenzy to come across the perfect gift for my mom and mother-in-law, I decided to write this article to help YOU find a gift for that special woman in your life too! By choosing eco-friendly Mother’s Day gifts, you can celebrate your mom and Mother Earth at the same time.
What do I have against cut flowers?
They’re often shipped around the world (yes, even if you buy them locally), they’re almost always wrapped in plastic, and they are sprayed heavily with pesticides. Such bad news for our pollinator friends! If you are dead set on buying your mom flowers, ask your florist what they can source locally or even buy your mom a pot of flowers instead! For more info on choosing sustainable flowers, check out this helpful post from a fellow blogger!
While doing some online shopping for my mom, I jotted down some of my favorite finds to share with you. Hopefully this list helps make your life a little easier! If your mom is more into experiences instead of physical gifts, you can check out this all-inclusive list of all the best experience gifts.
If you’re able to shop from local, small businesses, I highly encourage you to do so! Supporting local businesses is so important. When you buy from a small business, you’re putting food on someone’s table, you’re supporting somebody’s dream, and you’re stimulating your local economy. Winning all around!
That being said, the links below are affiliate links for a company I know and love dearly, Earth Hero! It’s like the Target for eco-friendly products. They source from tons of small businesses so that everything is in one place. Not only that, but they give back to the Earth in SO many different ways and they do carbon-offsetting for all of their shipping. Seriously guys, it’s online shopping you can feel good about!
This post contains affiliate links. This means that if you purchase one of the items in this article I will make a very small commission, at no extra cost to you. For more information, see my disclosure policy.
For the mom who’s always cooking up a storm:
She can ditch that saran wrap once and for all when she gets these beeswax wraps. They have SUPER cute prints to choose from too! I also am a big fan of stasher bags, plus they have a new collection with some really funky colors! Growing up, I remember we’d always wash and reuse our Ziploc bags over and over again until we wore holes in them. Luckily, stasher bags are made of silicone so they’ll basically last forever.
For the mom who deserves to kick up her feet & relax:
Because let’s be honest, all of our moms deserve to be pampered. These fair trade and organic candles will help set the mood for your mom’s at home spa day. She can use this amazing jade face roller that increases circulation and helps with lymph node drainage. I got a little distracted from Mother’s Day shopping and bought myself one. I mean, I’m a mom too! Happy Mother’s Day to me!
Next up, she can wrap herself up in this amazing bamboo bathrobe while she winds down for the night. I love this cute bamboo eye mask, too! It definitely completes the whole “spa day” theme! At home spa package, complete.
For the mom who’s always in the garden
Put together a gift basket with some gardening necessities! Flower bulbs, packets of seeds, this non-toxic bug repellent, and maybe a fun new straw hat. Pick out some exotic flower bulbs that she wouldn’t usually plant! Then, set aside a day to spend together gardening, for old times sake. Planting flowers together will end up being the gift that keeps on giving!
For the mom who’s always on the go
If your mom spends a lot of time on the go, get her a pack of these super light and handy bamboo utensils. They’re perfect for eating out so that she can dodge those plastic forks and spoons every time. Pair it with this handy dandy insulated stainless steel water bottle and she’ll be all set for a low-waste day out! I also have my eye on this recycled shopping bag that looks absolutely perfect for picnics and beach days. It’s so fetch!
Happy Mother’s Day!
I hope this list has been helpful in giving you some eco-friendly Mother’s Day gift ideas! Whether you choose to buy your mom a gift, make a meal for her or plant some flowers together, enjoy celebrating this special day with your mom.
